Maryam was just looking through the window of the moving car, reminiscing what happened earlier. Her body was just in the car but her mind was totally absent.

Mufeedat tried all her best to console her but all was in vain. It was then it dawned on her that they haven't given the gifts they brought with them. She looked through the mirror as she say on the front sit, and spoke to ayawa.

"You should stop by the gate, I want want to give something to the gateman"

"Me too" Maryam spoke silently almost like a whisper, her voice laced with pain and regret.

Ayawa halted the car as they reached the gate, they came down to meet the gateman and gave him the gifts they brought after telling him to give too . They also bade him adieu and gave him token of money as they were fond of him since from their junior class.

"Maryam we should not travelling back to kaduna by this time of the night, it is very dangerous. I think we should sleep in my aunt's place then head back tomorrow"
Mufeedat spoke, jolting her friend out of her thinking.

"I think it's a nice idea, besides the road isn't safe during the day talk more of night" Ayawa supported the idea, still stealing gaze on Mufeedat.

"Okay" was all Maryam could utter.

"She lives in Asokoro, drive us there" Mufeedat said to Ayawa, more of an order than a description. She didn't even look his way when she spoke.

"Okay" Ayawa said heart brokenly

. It was then he vowed he must further his studies and be successful in life, he wouldn't just depend on this driving of a thing. Since he already has his O'level result, he is going to speak to Alhaji about that.

Aleeyu was walking down the road to the gate of the school, it was night but he didn't care anymore. He has to leave for Minna this night, since he doesn't have any relative in Abuja, and he can't bear the mockery in the hostel.

He was deep in thoughts that he didn't even know he has reached the gate, it was when he almost hit the gate that he realised.

"What are you doing here, I thought you were going to sleep in the hostel" Mal Hassan, the school gateman spoke, when he was Aleeyu trying to open the gate and live without a vehicle.

"No, I've changed my mind, I'm just going to travel back to Minna this night, something urgent came up and my attention is needed" Aleeyu said, forcing out a smile, only he knew how he was feeling deep down.

Mal Hassan pitied the poor boy, he knows there's something disturbing him. He can't just let him leave by this time of the night, the boy was so kind to him when his father was Alive and wealthy, before the calamity stroke them. He heaved sigh and spoke gently.

"You know it's dangerous travelling by this time, Especially to Minna. I won't let you leave, the road is bad and you are going with commercial vehicle, it's very very dangerous. Come here and sit" Mal Hassan said, bringing the chair forth to Aleeyu.

Aleeyu reasoned with him and obeyed, He can't just waste his life, he has to be strong and firm for his sick mother and little sister.

"Do you want to speak about what is bothering you?" Mal Hassan asked, jolting him out of the reverie.

He just moved his head, signifying nothing was bothering him. Mal Aleeyu knew something was bothering him for sure, but since he said no, he can't force him to speak.

Mal Hassan gave him fatherly advises for almost an hour, which relieved him off some of his worries.

"It's getting late, go back to the hostel" Mal Hassan said to him, gently stroking his back.

"No, I don't want to go back, I've walked here already, and it'll be a stress for me to go back" Aleeyu lied, not telling him the real reason for him not wanting to sleep in the hostel.

He continued with an innocent face "Do you mind if I pass the night here?"

"Hmmm sure it's no problem. If you can sleep on a mat though" Mal Hassan replied, sensing insincerity in Aleeyu's voice.

"It's okay with me" Aleeyu said chuckling. He thanked him and they both moved inside Mal Hassan's small room where they passed the night on a mat.

The drive to asokoro was a silent one as all of them were thinking. Mufeedat, pointed a gate to Ayawa, telling him to stop there. She went and spoke to the gateman who opened the gate for them. Mufeedat and Maryam both alighted out of the car, after Mufeedat told Ayawa to spend the night in the car because they are leaving early, the following morning.

She called her aunt as they proceeded to the door to the mansion. She knew her aunt would still be awake by then because she's a lover of Korean series, she can stay awake all night for that.

Aunty rafi'a opened the door for them. Mufeedat gave her a bone crushing hug as she was her favorite aunt.

"Hey, where are the manners, you're grown up now. Don't come and break my bones." Aunty rafi'a spoke playfully.

"Forgive the manners, you know i haven't seen you for months, I have to do that na." Mufeedat replied.

Maryam had been standing there watching their drama, she was just forcing out smile. "Good evening ma" She said still giving the best smile she could force.

Her voice made Aunty aware that she has kept them outside for long. "Evening my dear, how are you doing?, forgive me for keeping you out so long, it all because of this silly girl. Come in"
She said.

"It nothing ma, besides that's how silly she can be, I've been tolerating her for long, we have to join force and send her to rehabilitation centre" Maryam said jokingly, her jovial self trying to take over. They all laughed it off and went inside the exquisite building.

Aunty rafi'a told Mufeedat to take Maryam to the guest room upstairs, saying she would bring dinner for them afterwards.

The girls refreshed themselves and changed into sleeping wears. Maryam didn't eat the food as what happened earlier had made her lost her appetite. She went to bed and wished Mufeedat goodnight.
