Best Friend - Episode 7
Egypt
Third person point of view.
Paris could not help but be amazed at the size of the mansion, a huge portrait hung on the wall, it was the portrait of a man with a white long beard with little dark eyes that seemed to peer into your soul, his head was wrapped with a golden turban, one look at him and you could tell he was a brilliant mind. "Thats your father" Paris whispered as they waited for Hakim "you lived here as a child, great just great, I mean unbelievable" "Well it wasn't this modern, but it was always a beauty, I guess life has been good for him even after the fall of the royals" Mrs Adebayo responded absent mindedly "His awake now, please come" Hakim said with his rich Egyptian accent.
They followed as Hakim led the way into a surprisingly simple bedroom, a small bed was at the far end of the room, to the right was a table carved out of fine wood, with piles of books heaped on it. The room did not fit with the majestic building that had marble coated walls and huge chandeliers high up and floors as shinny as mirrors. On the bed lay a pale man, he was but a reflection of the handsome man with fiery small eyes on the portrait. "Nefertiti, Nefertiti" he called as he stretched his hand. Mrs Adebayo quickly reached for his arm and kissed it tenderly, the tears flowed freely from her eyes. "Baba al'abi 'ana wahid fi misr"( father I am the one). Paris stood like an image watching, not understanding a word they said, as they spoke in Arabic. Her emotions were steered as he suddenly turned towards her and stretched his hand to her, she just stood wishing to move but still standing "come, Paris, please come" her mother said. He struggled to raise himself from the bed, as she took a step closer, she knelt before him, he gently massaged her cheeks with his shaky hands "yaghfir li taflay fi misr" ( forgive me my child). "You look just like my beautiful wife" he whispered as the tears slowly rolled down his wrinkled cheeks. Paris could no longer cage her emotions, she felt like she had known him all her life, his palms felt so safe, it was like she was been drawn to him by an unseen force, "I missed your life because of my anger and short sightedness". His English was very bad but Paris didn't mind, his thumb wiped the tear that fell down her cheeks "my child, my child" he repeatedly whispered.
All the emotions was becoming too Much for Paris to handle as she ran out till she was out of the mansion. She sat by the large fountain in front of the building, the gentle breeze swiping across her face. "Are you OK?" She heard her mothers voice behind her "Am fine" she paused then continued "what did he say to you" "He is sorry and regrets banning me out of his life" "Unfortunately its now when he is dying" "He wanted to make peace before passing on, he didn't want to die with a troubled soul" "He really did love you didn't he?" "Yes I was his joy, his everything" "And you let all that, this" pointing to the mansion for love" "I love my father but you and your father meant the world to me" Standing up she hugged her mum as they cried in each others bosom.
