Best Friend - Episode 14

 

The day was seemingly getting too long and boring, the hospital had given me a week to rest after my discharge assuming that I had to rest after collapsing due to high level of stress. My mind could not just get off the whole drama messing up my life right now. I thought of calling mum, but decided not to, she would only worry too much and maybe spook Kunle if truly he was setting me up as Dustan suggested.

How could she actually believe I was responsible for her father's death. I still remember very well the night he was rushed in, badly wounded from the accident, I did everything a human could do, I fought to keep him alive even offering my blood for a transfusion when it matched mine all to no avail . I guess there is very little a man can do when death comes calling. I really wished he was alive, he meant a lot to Paris even though he didn't like me, thinking I was not good enough for his daughter, I did everything to win his favour because in some strange way I felt he could feel that void in me that was created by not growing up to have a father figure to look up to. His death was not just a loss to Paris, it was also my loss. 

My phone could not help distract my mind so I switched on the television hoping it could help save me from boredom and distract my mind before I go crazy with thoughts the many ways I would kill Kunle. I aimlessly scrolled through the channels looking for nothing in particular

. BBC business news was on and the head line caught my attention NEW CEO OF NEFERTITI TO TAKE OVER. I increased the volume to hear the analysis, I could not be more shocked to see Paris picture on BBC, as the CEO of Nefertiti. The reporter read:
"29 year old Paris Adebayo has become the new CEO of Nefertiti, the world renowned beauty company with its head quarters in Brooklyn.

. The young CEO a graduate in Business Management, became CEO when her grand father Ruhollah al-Awlaki the secret owner of the renowned beauty company passed away. She is expected to be in Brooklyn in an undisclosed date to take over. So Ben what do you think of these, a young woman as CEO.......................

I stood looking at the television like an object from space. I was too confused to think. This made no sense, I had to talk to some one before I go nuts.

Dustan was obviously shocked to see me in the site of the soon to be, tallest building in Nigeria, right at the center of Abuja, a contract he won 7 months ago. He immediately abandoned everything and drove me to an eatery two streets from the construction site.
He tried to calm me down as my pacing was beginning to cause eyes to stare which I didn't even mind. He was shocked, sad and angry as I was when I narrated everything from meeting with Paris two days ago till the news this afternoon.

"Am going to kill him, I swear" I said

He turned to see nobody was within ear shot so as not to cause any unnecessary trouble. He held me by the hand as he motioned me to come with him, we went in his car and locked ourselves in

"Damm that backstabbing son of a bitch" he said as he hit his hand on the steering of the infinity jeep we sat in.

"Listen man you have to calm down, we will stick to the plan we can't let him know we are unto him" Dustan said breathing rapidly.

"Am killing that monster, how could he be so wicked, what did I do to deserve this. He is after Paris for the money or what?'

" Relax, we need to get some evidence against him and with some calls lock him for the rest of his miserable life" Dustan said

"I am not sure what I would do if I see him"

"You will do nothing, keep cool and let's catch this evil thing called Kunle, you will not end in jail for him, he is not worth it."

I agreed, we would hang out with Kunle, like everything was okay till we could get something to pin this on him maybe talk about it and record him or something. Maybe we could get Inuk to confess.

"Dustan you have to help me talk to her, man I love that girl, she is everything I dreamed about, everything I could possibly want in a woman."

"Not to worry, we will do anything to get her back, I strongly believe she is your soul mate". He said reassuringly as he parted my back.

Could we actually catch Kunle in his own game,or are we making I mistake? I could not help but wonder.
