Best Friend - Episode 21

 

SORRY FOR THE DELAY THIS EPISODES WERE HARD FOR ME TO WRITE, IT TOOK A LOT OF RESTARTING SEVERAL TIMES SO I COULD GET THE RIGHT IDEA AND I HOPE YOU ENJOY MY EFFORT ESPECIALLY.

She sat still saying nothing, then stood up quietly walking away, I stood looking at her wondering if to run after her and beg, maybe tell her I was joking or something but I did nothing, I just watched her walking away without saying a word.

This was for the best I thought, maybe this is how its suppose to happen, maybe I had to let her go to avoid any deaths. I felt weak inside out, I sat and let a few tears drop, got up cleaned my eyes with a made up mind.

The next day I wrote my first paper, well it turned to be the hardest exam of my life but thank God, unlike most medical students I was not a fan of the crash program I preferred reading long before exams, all the same the exam was hard.
 The harder I tried to forget Chelsea the harder it was to not think of her but I had to make her secondary for now I was not planning to sweat in any exams again, I had two days to the next paper, I woke up early the next day feeling happy, why I was happy I didn't know, I blasted loud music with my headset and prepared a very delicious jollof rice and by 7 am I had taken my bath, woke Kunle up and served him food to his surprise, delightful surprise . We ate together,gisted and laughed, it had been a while we bromanced like that.

"Its good to have you back man" Kunle suddenly said

I smiled and replied "yeah its good to be back"

"So you mind sharing now, what has been eating my best friend up"

"Nah its a long story and I wouldn't want to spoil such a fine morning" I said clearing the place we ate like I had always done, I always gave him the elder brother treatment even though we were born two days apart in the same month and same year.

The time read 9 o'clock, I had planned to read in school, I gathered my things ready to go.

"Kunle hw far, you the enter school today?" I asked Kunle who was now bathing and singing

"Noo wetin I the go find that side abeg me I de go track one babe like that"

"Oga well done o like don't go and read for your exams make you the pursue woman"

"Guy allow me flex when I get chance o I go come back to read letter, I no  fit miss this parol, na babe wey the give me tough time fa"

"Oga that one is your business me I don go" I said and left.

I went into the empty class I always liked reading in, too bad it was filled with the 200 level class I strolled around till I found another, settled in and for the next three hours I read revising my notes, going through everything, I decided to go for a little break, walk around and relax my brain.

As I got out of the faculty building, I walked admiring the threes planted in a straight line like I had never seen them before,I enjoyed the gentle breeze but all of a sudden i froze, I could see Kunle with Chelsea at the far corner sited, and laughing.

. They were sited with Kunle backing my direction and Chelsea opposite him facing my drection,I could see him holding her hand and gesticulating as he laughed. Anger engulfed me, my mood turned sour, so this was the chic he meant, I pinched myself trying to calm my anger I repeatedly said to myself "Fred you are more than this" "Fred you have to let her go". I can't imagine the news that will spread through school that two medical students fought over a hundred level girl.

My angery nerves calmed down, but my emotions were now over flooded with sadness, immense sadness, just as I was about to turn her eyes caught mine, I quickly turned and almost ran back where I came.

I will not let this get the better of me I tried to concentrate pretending i saw nothing, a sudden bolt of anger hit me and I flung the note in front of me. Placed my head on the locker put on my headset to the highest volume and tried to calm down. I don't know how long I stayed that way, and then someone tapped me gently, I raised my head to see a sparkling white teeth smiling at me, I removed my headset.

"I think this belongs to you" she said handing me the book I had thrown.

I collected it, packed my books in my bag and walked out without a word when I reached the door she said out loud giggling "is that how you treat the woman of your dreams".

 On a normal day that would make me laugh, rather I stopped turned and smiled sadly 

" I think I made a mistake telling you that, am very sorry but I don't think this was ever designed to work"

"Oh really" she said somewhat sad "and here I was, thinking somebody has fallen madly in love with me, I guess I was wrong"

I walked to her held her by her shoulders, while a hand of my bag hung on my shoulder, looking straight in her eyes and said "listen girl, I love you, I love you in ways I don't understand, its barely two months but I feel like its been years I don't know how to explain what I feel"

"Then why are you fighting this feeling? If you really care about me why are you rejecting me? You told me the most awkward thing ever, that we were engaged and all of that, and then you just left me hanging, when you know the things you said would be difficult for anyone to easily accept, two days you neither called nor said anything who does that?" She said almost in tears

"You don't get it, this is hard for me too, can't you see am going through pain? This is for the best it all ends here and now, we both know what will happen, I can never have you, you can never be mine, and I can't kill anybody, worst of my best friend. He can have you if that what it takes to keep everyone safe"

"So that's it?" She said a tear almost dropeyes from her pale green eyes

I stormed out and stopped abruptly when she shouted behind me "I love you, please I love you". She was now crying.

I walked back to her " what did you say"

"I love you Fred,and yes I don't understand it either, I feel like I have known you my whole life, but you are just to dumb to see it"

I walked to her so close I saw deep in her eyes she wasn't lying she meant it. Using my index finger I lifted her chin, she slapped my hand away

"Leave me alone"
Why I asked the next question I don't know maybe I was just stupid

"If you love me what then were you doing with him?"

She looked at me surprised then annoyed

"How dare you ask me that?" She asked hitting my chest

"What is even your problem? Didn't you learn anything from your dream? You let empty jealousy cloud your senses so much you can't even see how much I love you, the exact same thing you did with Paris. How gullible can you be?" She cried as she speak, her words ripped through my soul, I felt sorry for myself.

I pulled her close, she fought to free herself, hitting my chest continuously bit I held her tight and hugged her like my life depended on it

"Am sorry, am sorry" I said 

I pulled her away looked in her eyes, and with my thumb wiped the tear that fell down her right cheek

"Am truly sorry I didn't know you feel that way too I thought I scared you away, I thought leaving you would be best now I know better". She nodded gently and hugged me. At that moment I felt my life was complete.
