Behind You - Episode 28

 

Farah

It's been four days since the departure of jawad. Myrah and Khalid also left early in the morning and now I'm left alone with Aunt Fatima in the house. Being away from him made me realize how deep i fell for my husband. I feel empty and lonely. Taking my phone from the Nightstand, i stared at jawad name flashed across the screen. He called me once and that is the day of his departure and since that day he didn't call.

Farah just call him, he's your husband.

Inhaling a sharp breath, i pressed the call button . I sigh in disappointment when i heard his line switched off.

I hope all is well.

Ya Allah protect my husband wherever he is.

My phone vibrated indicating it's time for prayers. I perform Wudu without wasting anymore time.

I prayed to Allah to protect my husband.

Stepping downstairs, i spot aunt Fatima busy in the kitchen. Masha Allah Aunt Fatima is a hardworking woman. How i wish she had a Daughter or a son.

"Why are you standing there Farah come sit, the food is almost done." She said snapping me out of my thoughts.

Taking a seat opposite where jawad use to sit, i stared at the seat remembering the time. I felt like yesterday.

"Here eat before it turns cold." Aunty Fatima said placing a bowl of hot porridge in front of me.

. "Thank you Aunt." She also sat beside me with a bowl of her own porridge.

"The house feels empty now that  Myrah and Khalid left, and now jawad." She sigh. "Oh by the way did you talk to jawad?" She added.

An disappointment sigh made it way out of my lips. "His line is not going through"

Aunt Fatima squinted her brows in confusion. "When did you call his phone?"

"Just before i came downstairs" i answered back.

"I talked to him last night, maybe he was caught up in work that is why his line is not going through this morning."

Wait!
What?

He called Aunt Fatima last night but he didn't bother to call me.

I don't think he cares about you cause if he does he will at least call you to know how you're doing. My mind told me. I shake off the thoughts not wanting it to bother me.

After we're done eating, i helped Aunt washed the dishes and tidy up the kitchen. And now I'm back to my room without having anything to do. I took out the Book I'm currently reading but all my thoughts is on jawad.

Farah maybe he got someone who is much better than you.

What did i expect? He's just being kind to me. He didn't tell me he like me.

I lone tear fell from my eyes which i didn't even know how it came out. I think it's a one sided love.

"Are you serious Yasmin"

"Yes sis Farah, i know you will be proud of me." She squirm from the other end. 

"Of course am so proud of you and i know if papa had been alive he will also be proud of you, keep making us proud Yasmin." Am happy Yasmin is taking her studies serious. She called to tell me she was one of the top student in her department.

"I have to go Sis Farah will call you later." She said.

"Okay my regards to mom."

And now its Time for bed. After changing into my Nighty which is a simple milk silky strapless gown. I was about to close the wardrobe when some shirt fell, i immediately recognise the shirt. It was one of his shirt he wore the day we went out for date. I must say it was the day i started having feelings for him. Bringing the shirt to my face, i inhale the sweet scent coming out of the shirt his scent. 

The buzzing of phone brought me back from my world of thoughts. I groaned who is that person disturbing me at this late night. I froze at the name i saw flashing on the screen.

Jawad.

I let the phone ring for some time. I don't want to show him how eager i am to receive his call.

"Assalam Alaikum." I said in my most calm voice. The line went quite for sometime until i heard the voice I've been dreading to hear, the voice I've been craving to hear since 2days ago.

"Wa Alaikum salam, how are you doing?." He asked.

"Um.. I'm doing just fine." I managed to say.

Farah be calm. I mentally scold myself.

"How's your work over there?" I added.

"It was fine, we're still working on a few project i might stay longer than i intended to." I felt something pierced into my heart.

I was here missing my husband alone.

Farah this is definitely a one-sided love.

"Farah are you there?" I heard his voice from afar like he's by the roadside.

"Yes"

"I have something to tell you when i come back." He stated. He went quite for a while. I heard some voice talking. 

A female voice.

"I have to go Farah, i will call you tomorrow goodnight." He said and the line went off. I didn't even get to say goodnight.

Hearing a female voice bothers me.

Could it be...

No 

No 

I shouldn't think like that.

I slept that night clutching jawad pillow to my heart. I think I've turn to a love puppy teenager.

"Aunt Fatima i will be stepping out for a bit." I informed Aunt wrapping around my hijab.

"Is the driver taking you?"

"He told me he's taking the car for repairs,  so i will just take a taxi."

"Okay be careful." She said. I think i will start learning how to drive, there are cars in the house but i can't use them because i don't know how to drive. I will talk to jawad when he comes back.

"To Big Dee Mall" I told the driver. I lean my head on the seat and close my eyes for a bit to rest. Upon reaching the Mall, i paid him his fare. I bought the necessary things i need and also bought a gift for jawad.

I don't know why but i woke up feeling happy.

I was about to cross the road when some car drove towards me in a full speed before i could register what was happening, the deed has already been done. When i heard next is some people saying 

Call the Ambulance

And then blackout.
