"He is getting married on Saturday." Busola said, sipping her tomato juice

Anjola continued humming under her breath, concentrating hard on her drawing, it was either that or her facade would crumble.

Busola cleared her throat, "Anjola i said Demilade is getting married on...

Anjola sighed wearily, cleaning off a sweat from her forehead, she dropped her brush and faced Busola squarely, "I heard you the first time Busola,i wish him good luck in his marriage." Anjola concluded, picking up her brush and started painting an area with dark colors.

Busola dropped her tomato juice, "How can you be so nonchalant? He is getting married to the devil herself, that Adesua girl!!"

Anjola dropped her brush and her dark paint started seeping into her work table, Busola settled the paint back and folded her arms staring at Anjola,

"You can't keep doing this to yourself Anjy,go get your man before that Adesua girl lay any claims on him. Your mom tells me you've locked yourself in this studio hours on end, and all you paint is Demi."

Anjola stared at her hands and fat tears started to drop on them, "It's too late Busola, i can't do anything now, i can't break up their wedding."

Busola walked to her friend patting her back, "Sometimes girlfriend i think you can be so dense when it comes to your love life? Weren't you the one that encouraged me to go back to Bosun and not worry about my parents reaction?"

Anjola cried silently watching the paint drip from the table to her Oat coloured rug, "I can't do that Busola"

Busola sighed heavily, "Anjy, i know you well, you can, but you won't, maybe it's time i took matters into my own hands."

Anjola looked up staring at Busola, "what do you mean?"

"Nothing, do you want to go wedding dress shopping with me next week?" Busola suddenly asked.

"It's a lie!! Bosun proposed?" Anjola asked suddenly brightening up

Busola lifted up the hand she had been keeping from Anjola's view, "Yes he did, we're getting married!! And guess who's gonna be my Chief bride's maid?"

Anjola suddenly burst into tears taking her friends hand in hers, she examined the ring, "it's so beautiful. . I am happy for you both, you deserve all the happiness in the world."Anjola concluded

"So do you girlfriend, i wish you'd stop this madness Demi is about to enter into, but it's your call to make not mine." Busola said

***********

Early saturday morning guests could be seen making their way into St Louis Anglican Church, diverse people came in different cars that could be perceived by an observer as affluence and wealth, the front lawns permeated sweet flowery scents as the guests made way into the church.

Inside the church the families of both the bride and groom sat side by side, while the father of the bride and that of the groom hugged each other happily as they knew the day had finally arrived when their companies would both be merged through the wedlock of both their children.

Demilade's mom sat to a side, tapping her foot restlessly, her face was shielded in a black designer shade so it was hard to gauge her expression, but it was obvious she didn't support the union, with the way her fan snapped and the impatient tapping of her feet on the tiled floor.

Reporters came in full swing, clicking away, all trying to get a scoop their opponents might not have noticed, it was truly meant to be the wedding of the year as a reporter announced in front of a video tripod standing outside the church.

There was finally silence as the priest made himself known, reading from the scriptures and the marriage rites, "Therefore would a woman leave both her parents and cling to her husband and they both shall become one." The priest looked from the unsmiling Demilade to the glowing Adesua, her wedding dress was made of precious stones and gems, and one couldn't help but wonder how much the dress would have cost, everything she had on, had obviously cost an arm and a leg.

"Do you Demilade Olaotan take Adesua Arawole Daniel, to be your lawfully wedded wife, for richer and for poorer in sickness and in health till death do you both part?"

All the priest was saying seemed to come from a distance, Demi looked into Adesua's smiling eyes and all he could see was Anjola, his sunshine, the only woman that loved him truly and respected him not because of his money

. And here he was trying to betray her by marrying someone else, he prayed that something drastic would happen before he said his vows, he couldn't bring himself to tie himself to a sham of a marriage. All of a sudden something seemed wrong, he felt like cold fingers were clenching at his heart, everything seemed to sway right before him, and before he could say Jack, he fell right before the whole shocked congregation, much to the delight of the reporters who snapped and clicked away happily.

The last thing he heard before darkness engulfed him was his mother's scream, amidst other commotions,

"wole o ti pa mi lomo(wole you have killed my son.) Demilade!!!"
