Episode1

Wake up, up from this bed this instant; you haven't done your household chores yet. Anyway, I came to tell you that. Good morning mummy, please I am lost, could you start again in a slow manner this time around please? It was 8 O'Clock in the morning of a beautiful Saturday. It had rained the previous night, so turbulent that even the moon together with men retired sadly to its dwelling pace . There was no moonlight stories, evening strolls and movie shows as usual. The peace of the neighbourhood was disturbed by the heavy downpour. The gutters were filled to the brim, dangerous for playful children who would not survive without playing along them because they could be easily drowned. The rain was so heavy that it was accompanied by intermittent blasts of thunder and a mighty gush of wind so powerful that it could pull down a mighty building. Stand up and prepare for breakfast since you are too big to work in this house. I opened my eyes slowly, one at a time to find where she stood. Am sorry mum, but I still find it difficult to inactivate my sleep mode. When she left my room, I dashed straight to the bathroom, took a warm shower and within seconds I hurried down for breakfast. Breakfast was slow and nice, except by the constant nagging by my mom about my carefree attitude towards house chores, completely different from my other three siblings which made the breakfast a little boring

. You will not kill us in this house, she muttered. Making use of carefully chosen words, I remanded mummy that she had not finished what she wanted to say earlier on because I interrupted her due to her speed. You have passed the National Common Entrance Examination to go to a Federal Government College. I wanted to leap for joy for my achievement but she interrupted my happiness with another message which made me feel a tear at my abdomen. Because of your stubbornness in this house, your father and I, advised by father Marvin have decided to send you to where your madness will be tamed; you will be going to St Albert Reformatory School. We will take you for registration on Monday, She said. Father Marvin, a muscular short statured catholic priest from Ireland in his early thirties was our family priest. He was very friendly and loving but will tolerate no nonsense from whosoever. Even in the parish, he frowned at children as well as youths who would stay back from masses and will either give them grass to cut if they are males and for the females, they were to mop the sacristy, the oratory as well as the baptistery as a penitentiary service for forgiveness. According to him, anything wrongly done is punishable by God. As for me, I have received many of such penitentiary services that I could ever imagined. You are not keeping up to pace; your parents are not happy with you, God is not happy as well as I. do you want to go to hell. I don't want you to perish; you are my son as well, he would say. I knew at once that mum and dad must have been feeding him with information about my appalling attitude. I wasn't surprised that their long term plan had worked. They always threaten to report me to father anytime I misbehaved. And now, I was sure they were happy for a job well done. My parents together with my three siblings looked at me to see my reaction upon receiving the incomprehensible news. I looked at my plate of fried rice and fish stew and ate it very carefully as if I was counting the grains of rice I took in per spoon. Are you not happy with us? It is for your own good; we love you and wish you become a respectable gentleman in the future. You will be happy there. I will inform father Starks, the dean of student affairs who is a very good friend of father Marvin that you will be coming for registration on Monday, daddy said after few minutes. I looked at him and smiled but deep within me, it couldn't be a smile. It was sadness of missing my friends who would be going to the Federal Government College, of a Reformatory School which I know might not accommodate my person. Thanks dad, mum, Adolf, Maggie and Marie, it will really be of help to me at St Albert; I heard that apart from father Marvin, there are other whiter priests mostly present in the school. I will make some my best friends, I said with a low bow and left to my bedroom without waiting for the grace after meal to be said all to their amazement. Lying on my bed, I could picture what they said and thought. What has gotten over him; is he really happy to be there? He seems so gentle that is what I knew they would say. I could see myself being reformed already when sleep took over me.
