Cleo had been acting all up since she returned from the family dinner two weeks ago. Her mum had since after the dinner, developed the habit of sending her tones of messages, reminding her how old she was, and how grateful she should be that a man from a family as good as Jason’s was willing to marry her at her age. Cleo was keen at finding the “love” spark; she needed more than stability and companionship in marriage . What is the point sitting next to someone at the dinner table for the rest of her life talking only about her day? There needs to be unsaid communication, sarcasm that doesn’t go unnoticed, the teasing that doesn’t stop, that chemistry you can never find from just a good résumé. She was just twenty eight years old after all; love will come, in its own time. Ada had tried severally to know why the change in behavior and Cleo always had a way of sweeping the topic under the carpet.

Chioma was now living with them against the wishes of both Ada and Cleo, but they had to be Christians and friends, so here they are with their “life of the party friend”.  The trio sat in the sitting room seeing a telenovela when Ada’s phone rang.

“Ada, your phone has been ringing.” Chioma said
“I know. I just do not want to take calls now.”
“Okay ooo.”
Ada’s phone rang again and she picked.
“Hello ma”
“Yes, your order is ready.”
“No ma

. We agreed on thirty thousand naira.”
“Yes. I’d send you my account details.”
“Thank you. Bye ma”.

Ada shook her head whilst dropping her phone, why do rich people sometimes find it difficult to spend? She wondered, anyways, that was not her problem. A pot of Oha soup at that price was fair. She had to pay her workers and take care of herself. Slowly, her mind drifted to other worries of life and she didn’t know when she hissed.
“Babe what is worrying you?” Chioma asked
“Nothing nah”
“And you are hissing up and down like a wicked woman.”
“I did not hiss”
“You did.” Cleo said chipping into the conversation.
“I did not” Ada insisted
“But wait oh. Shebi it is you that said you are not taking calls, why did you pick your last call?” Chioma asked
“I said I was not taking calls at that instant. You did not hear that one eh.”
“Abi you did not want to talk to that particular person”
“Chioma, what is it with you na. Did you see me in your dream?”
“You wish. Anyhow sha we shall spend that 30k when it arrives.”
Cleo was enjoying the little drama Ada and Chioma were acting. Choma was fun in itself and this was one thing she loved her for.
“Ehen, Ada how is Tunde? It’s been ages he visited.” Cleo asked out of the blues.
“How will he visit when I am in this house? The two of us don’t ever agree” Chioma said
“Is it you he is coming to see? Abeg Ada, how is your man?”
Did this two ladies plan to kill me? Ada thought. Why are they all firing questions at her?
“He is all good.”
“When last did he call you sef?” Chioma asked
“Chioma, you will be poking your nose in people’s relationship when I have never known you with any man.” Cleo said making a tongue at Chioma.
“I am being caring. Do you know since I came here eh, I have not heard Ada speak with or about Tunde.” Chioma said.
“Wow! Ada. Oya start talking.” Cleo said adjusting her sitting posture.
Ada cursed under her breath. This two are at it.
“We are having a little drift.” Ada said.
“What happened na.” Chioma asked with concern.
“You remember that day you had a family dinner, I waited for Tunde for an hour. He chose the time and all. I was on my own, when he called to tell me of his plan for the evening. I was all jolly as per “my boo is romantic” only for him to vanish. Worst still, his number was just not reachable. And then, out of the moon, he started calling yesterday. I am tired of Tunde.” Ada narrated her story with so much pain in every word.
“Maybe he is working on heartbreak something, so he decided to use you as a character. The things you get for dating a writer.” Cleo said jokingly, trying to ease the pain that was visible in Ada’s eyes. She just does not understand Tunde, he was too dramatic.
“Abeg jorh. Who does that? Does Chimamanda Adichie turn the people around her into characters to write a book? Let us call a spade a spade. Tunde is a bastard son of a thousand fathers, simple. Ada, you deserve better. Throw that boy to the trash abeg.” Chioma said aggressively.
“Nooo.

. You must hear from him first, what if something bad happened. Anything is possible.” Cleo said
“So bad he could not call me abi. My mumu she yaff do.” Ada said.
“I say we hear from him. I’d call him”. Cleo left for her room. Chioma was busy reminding Ada of the varying occasion Tunde haad treated her like an option.

“Look what I have here.” Cleo said excitedly waving her hands.
“What?” Chioma and Ada asked in unison
“NARDS Company, I am planning their wedding and the owner, who I must admit is too handsome for words, gave me an extra invite for my friend. So, Ada, you are coming to the party with me.” Cleo said
“Thank you. But I do not fill like it.” Ada said
“Well, I feel like it.” Chioma replied trying to snatch the invite from Cleo.
“NO. Chioma you are not. Ada, you need a party to clear your head. 7pm this weekend.”
