The Reunion - Episode 6

 

Lisa had everything figured out, at least she thought she did …after two drinks of whatever she was having, and she already felt a tad bit tipsy. She had been standing alone for over an hour, not exactly how she planned the night in her head. There and then she decided to go for the inevitable, she liked the person Mariah thought she was; in a way, Mariah looked up to her, because she had this misconception that Lisa was somewhat the bold type.
Lisa looked around the lounge, she wasn’t quite certain about what she was searching for, but she knew it when she found it, or …him. He had this smile on his face that made her smile mentally, with a drink in his hand; she watched as his eye’s followed something or someone in the background, she wasn’t quite sure . She then decided to do what she would have done if Mariah was around to witness it; in a way …they both depended on each other for that pint of boldness that made them unique.
She walked up to him like she was strutting down a runway ,she watched as the lights made his fair skin brighter ,she wondered if she was making the right decision by walking up to a complete stranger …she was all for girl power but she also didn’t want to be seen as ‘easy’, but she continued walking anyway.
“Hey there.” She said in the most flirtatious way possible, at first he was confused, but then he smiled …it was like a knowing smile, like he knew the moment she started  walking up to him.
“Hi.” He flirted back with just that word.
“I was standing over there.” Lisa started as she pointed at her starting point. “And then I saw you, and I just had to comment on how contagious your smile is.” She slapped herself mentally for not cooking up a better lie, but that didn’t matter, he was silent …it was like ‘the silence of rejection’

. He was about to speak when a lady walked up to them, and the thing about this lady was that she had a bump.
“hello .” the radiant pregnant lady said rather nicely ,which made Lisa seem like the evil one for flirting with a married man … with nothing but an awkward silence between them ,Lisa spontaneously grabbed the his drink from his hand ,took the last gulp ,handed his glass back to him, and walked away .
She was seven steps away and giving herself a hard time for being so stupid, she walked out for some air and she was finally getting her sanity back, when she was charmingly interrupted.
“Hey, you know it’s rude to grab someone’s drink without asking.” the stranger said as he leaned on the wall, beside her.
“I’m sorry; I really don’t know what I was thinking.” Lisa said with a muffled voice as she covered her face in embarrassment.
“Its fine, but you owe me a drink.” he said “thanks for the comment earlier; it’s not every day that a beautiful lady walks up to you and leaves you speechless.”
“Yeah, I shouldn’t have done that …I’m so sorry if it caused any problem between you and your wife.” Lisa came from a semi broken home ,she knew the effect of flirting with a married person ,her parents had a whole life time of arguments over her father’s ‘skillful flirting’ like her mother always called it . Lisa decided to walk away with her head held high; after all, it was only a harmless mistake.
“What? That was my sister.” He clarified, and that stopped Lisa dead in her tracks, she turned back slowly to face him, at that point, she felt the whole situation was awkward, so she decided to do the right thing. She walked away. As she walked away, she could swear that he was following her close behind, her suspicions were confirmed when a firm hand, grabbed her arm.
“Being rude doesn’t look so good on you, just saying.” he said as he let go of her arm in defeat.
“I’m sorry, I just hate awkward situations …unlike Mariah, and she’s the queen of awkward situations.”
“I don’t know who that is.” he said like he was counting his words.
“I know.” Lisa replied in a duh tone “so you and your sister are one of them?” Lisa asked awkwardly.
“no ,but my sister is …technically ,I’m one of them ……only a class younger .” he replied ,and Lisa’s heart fell …she was already planning a fling in her head ,but by her calculation ,he was probably two  years younger than she was. She was sure about this, since she was a year older than Mariah, and Mariah was surely older than him.
“ooh.” She replied with no hidden disappointment in her voice, she was finally ready to look for someone serious, someone worthy, if Ikenna from work was any indication, she was done wasting her time on relationships that had no evident value in her life. “See you around then.” She said as she turned on her heel.
“What of that drink you owe me?” he asked hopefully.
“Uhm! I really don’t have time for this ,I walked up to you because I was looking for a potential boo ,but now that I know that I’m probably older than you ,I can’t .” she said in the most sugar coated way possible .
“Wow! I’m asking you for the drink you owe me ,not marriage …” He replied disappointedly ,and Lisa felt like she was a bit dramatic ,so she decided that the least she could do ,was have a drink with him . After all…the night was still young.
“I’m Lisa, by the way.” she laid down her counterclaim.
“I’m Jeremy, jerry is good though.” 
“Okay, nice to meet you jerry …let’s get you that drink.”  As they headed for the bar, Lisa dreaded the fact that she had made the wrong choice, she had accepted the fact that she was bad at picking guys …so she decided that she was going to rip the rest of her night off, like a band.
Unfortunately for her, she found herself engulfed in the joy that came with jerry’s company…they connected on some weird level, and from the beginning of their conversation till the end, there was no dull moment. Even their silence had a cool vibe, she was torn between wishing that the night would quickly come to an end and on another hand, she wished that the night could go on.
