"I give you one thing, just one damn thing to do and you screw it up!"
He brought out a shotgun, kissed the thin barrel repeatedly before wiping completely, probably his own saliva.
"We did what you asked us to," The former got up from an old leather seat, cocked his rifle and pointed the barrel at the latter with a closed eye, probably for a good aim.
"So," The aimer asked bitting hard on a toothpick halfway into his mouth.
"He's aiming Bruce, he's aiming."
"Shut up Steve!"
"So Bruce, any last words?"
"Listen O'Connor, you can't kill any of us."
'Connor smiled, then put down the gun.
The boss is aware his son's not dead"
"His son?" It was O'Connor. "You better be careful, I'm sure he doesn't know you know that".
The three men went silent, taking a few shots of rum.
"You think? He's a really smart man you punk!" Bruce was the doctor that injected James, Steve was less of a pro.
"You're right" He smiled . "I can't kill you, yet."
There was hatred written all over Bruce's face as he helplessly listened.
He continued,
"Whether you like it or not, Mr Woods put me in charge of you both"
"So you now call him by his name, what guts!" Bruce looked, eyebrows in disarray.
"Obviously you don't

. He laughed. "Well that's your problem to deal with".
His voice, stature, stance, about everything irritated Bruce.
They both looked on with frowns, grudges, anger......Nothing could come out of that.

The school bells rang, James headed for his locker in the hallway.
He had gained a little weight, started working out and the regular attention he received from the girls resumed.
He smiled.
'Hey man, looking good!" It was his buddy Mark.
He held two plastic cups filled with milkshakes. He handed one over to James.
"Thanks man,!" James replied, like his friend knew he was thirsty.
'I beat you to it." Mark said with a grin. James laughed holding his ribs.
"No way man!" He said finishing his cold drink.
"I meant the moustache, it'd started to grow." James peered closely at Mark's upper lip and laughed again.
"What?"
"It's just a few baby hairs man," he chuckled agained.
"Baby hairs?"
"Yeah, yeah," James smiled on.
The two guys stood talking and joking for a while until mark got serious.
"Listen, there's this girl at Chemistry classes,. I think i uh...."
But James wasn't listening, he was looking else, at someone familiar.
Mark saw that he was looking at Edna.
"When will you get serious with her?"
He gave him a friendly punch, bringing his mind back.
"You weren't even listening." He bent to stuff his jerseys into his bag.
"Sorry, I dunno man. I don't wanna ruin anything." He finger-combed his brown curly hair in deep thoughts and hidden affection. He was't pretty sure what to do.
"Well, man up before it's too late. I'll be in the locker room, we have practice in twenty minutes."
Mark walked off slurping his milkshake, leaving James to his thoughts once again.
Before It's too late?
He was perplexed by Mark's statement. He really cared about Edna but he didn't want to jeopardize their friendship.
Deep down, he wanted more than friendship.
"Hey Man!," It was cole, their team captain, known for his soft permed hair and heavy eyebrows.
He was all dressed up for practice with a basketball underneath his armpit.
"You coming?"
"Yeah I'll be there in a bit." He packed all his stuff; Jerseys, elbow guard, socks and his headband. His shoes were in the locker room.
He jogged off, he wasn't really in the right frame of mind for his first training of the school year...
But he wasn't gonna back down....
Not now..... Not today.....!
