MBATA KINGDOM

“Thank you, My King. Long live”

“Do you love this kingdom?” the King asked.

“Surely, My King” the chief answered

“I love this kingdom with all my heart and seek her good”

“Great” the King answered. “I love people like you who truly love the kingdom and will give their all for her”

“That’s right, My King”

“Come closer” the King told the eldest chief.

He moved closer.

“Even closer” the King said and motioned to his right hand.

The eldest chief moved closer.

“From now on, you shall be my special adviser” the King said “even your children and your children’s children”
The other chiefs gasped.

“So that was how we met her” Fuole said as he put a spoon of food in his mouth.

“Wow, just like those fairytales” Dairo said “Let’s just hope it has a happily ever after too”

Fuole sneered at him playfully.

“I don’t like her that way” he said and Dairo choked on his food . Fuole offered him water.

“What made you choke?” Fuole asked.

“I thought” Dairo said and gulped down some more water “I thought you said you had a female’s genitals”

“What?” Fuole asked, his jaw dropping.

“I know right” Dairo said, piutting down the cup “You not liking her like that” he stressed the that “is just as unbelievable”

Fuole hit Dairo on the head and checked his hand.

“What?” Dairo asked.

“I knew it” he said and showed Dairo his hand that is now moist.

“Knew what?” Dairo asked.

“Your brain was heated at the military” Fuole said
“That’s why you’re saying nonsense

. See, I even have proof.”

“That’s cream” Dairo said as a matter of fact.

“It was replaced with cream?” Fuole asked and Dairo kicked him in the leg. They both burst into laughter.

“But really,” Fuole said “I don’t have…”

“Yan yan yan” Dairo interrupted him “Save me that lie”

Fuole shook his head and reclined in his chair.

Paulita passed and Dairo waved to him. She ignored him, smiled at Fuole and went her way. Dairo laughed.

“The girl’s still on your neck?” Dairo asked.

“Now, she’s right on top of my head” Fuole said.

Dairo laughed. “No wonder your head seems bigger”

“Please” Fuole said.

“You don’t have a choice though” Dairo said “she is betrothed to you”

“I didn’t know of that” Fuole said with an unconcerned tone in his voice.

“Now you do” Dairo said.

“That’s none of my business. My father can marry her if he’s so desperate to give her to someone. You can too” Fuole said and left the table.

. Dairo joined him.

“I understand you, my prince and I feel for you because Paulita isn’t really…” Dairo shook his head “She’s not helping matters” he paused and continued “but the royalty is known for honour and” he shook his head “I do not think the king will rescind on the words he said over twenty years ago.”

“I am not the royalty” Fuole said. He sighted Ahleera and waved to him.
Dairo shook his head and smiled as Ahleera walked towards them.

“My prince” Ahleera bowed his head as he stood before Fuole “I heard you summoned me”

“Not really” Fuole said and patted him on the back. Ahleera raised his head.

“Ahleera” Dairo said with a little bow

“Dairo” Ahleera said with a little bow too.

“See you before the party ends. Have fun” Fuole said to Dairo and Dairo winked as he blend with the crowd.

“How you and Dairo still never talk remains a mystery to me” Fuole said.

“We are not friends, we are not enemies” Ahleera responded.

“Wow, such a unique relationship” Fuole said.

They both kept quiet for a while.
Ahleera broke the silence. “I saw guards at the place”

“Which place?” Fuole said. Ahleera gave him a knowing look.

“Oh” Fuole exclaimed. “Yeah, for protection”

“Protection from who?” Ahleera asked and stopped at a convenient place. “No one even knows…” he looked around “she’s there” he said in a whisper.

“The place has been deserted for a while, so petty thieves could have used it as a hiding place”

“I didn’t see anything that suggests that while it was being cleaned” Ahleera said.

Fuole shrugged “Anyway, prevention is better than cure. Plus, the guards are just three”

“As your Lordship pleases” Ahleera gives a dramatic bow.

Fuole sneered at him and they walk on.

“By the way, what do you need this for at a party?” Fuole points to his sword.

“For protection” Ahleera said and blends into the crowd. Fuole shook his head and takes a cup of water from a maid as she walks by.
