ONE WEEK LATER…
Kenny was having dinner with David at a restaurant two blocks away from where she lived. One week had passed since she had last seen him. It wasn’t entirely her fault, he had gone to Lagos the day after the concert for a business conference. He worked with kents finance, a private auditing firm which had its headquarters there in Abuja but branches in major cities of the country, Lagos being one of them. ‘’So, this is it ehn, I’m finally having dinner with the precious Miss Kenny Babalakin’’, Kenny dropped her fork and stared at him . ‘’please don’t call me that. My last name is Adeogun’’, Her step father, Mr Babalakin had made she and her brother answer his name, it was one of the reasons he had given Kenny’s mother for Kenny and Taiye to live with him, they had no choice but to accept then, but Kenny dreaded the name and she had already begun the process of name changing to her biological father’s name, Adeogun. Kenny had also gone back to school, she was in her third year in a private university, studying music. She had also released her first album. Which was bringing in money for her, Pastor Ken had encouraged her to go back to school, before she decided to this, she had just SSCE degree, which she had gotten while living with Iya Gbemi, after this iya Gbemi died and she had to take care of herself. She left the house and started hustling for herself

. She was taken in by a woman called Madam Tee and that was when she started prostitution. ‘’I’m sorry, I didn’t actually know, well I guess its because everyone knows you as Babalakin’’. It was David. The way he said those words, there was something about that that suddenly soothened Kenny’s anger. ‘’its fine, its going to change soon’’, she said. ‘’and I’m sorry, if it seemed like I was avoiding you. Its just …’’, Kenny looked for the words that’ll best fit. ‘’my life was a mess, a big mess that I didn’t want to drag you into’’.
Kenny told David all she had been through, her mum’s death, her step father’s maltreatment and sexual abuse, Taiye’s death, to her life as a prostitute to the plane crash of three years ago, to how she got saved yet couldn’t seem to stop dinning in works of the flesh, up until last week, the encounter she had in her room. ‘’that was why you missed dinner’’, David said, suddenly realizing.  Kenny let out a quick smile. ‘’Yes, and I’m sorry again, you didn’t deserve that. To be stood up. I just…. I switched off my phone to concentrate’’. David held her hands. ‘’I don’t understand why you’re apologizing for having an encounter with Jesus’’. He smiled. Kenny bit her lip. ‘’I’m just sorry you had to go through all that alone. Why didn’t you tell anyone?’’, Kenny wanted to let go her hands from David’s, but he didn’t let her go. ‘’You’re doing it again. Running away I to a shell. That’s what the church is there for, that’s why friends are here. For you to open about stuff bothering you, things you’re facing. I mean no one’s perfect. But iron sharpeneth iron right. Isn’t that what the bible says? In the midst of the brethren, there is safety, but the devil knows this, so he makes you think that no one loves you and makes you keep quiet, he knows that the moment you speak up, you’re one step away from getting your salvation’’. ‘’the thing was, I didn’t want anyone judging me or looking down on me, and I was too scared to tell your father’’. Kenny was teary now. ‘’look at me’’, David said, putting his hand on her jaw making her look straight into his eyes. ‘’from now on, feel free to talk to me about anything at all. No more secrets okay?’’. ‘’okay’’, Kenny replied smiling sheepishly and noticing how handsome and sweet David was. Lucky would be the woman he’d be getting married to. She was thankful for his whole family. They had been there for her, she had finally told Pastor Ken and Pastor Gloria her secret and he did nothing like judging or condemning her instead he prayed with her and Pastor Gloria gave her a tight hug. After that hug she felt a burden lifted from her shoulders. She finally felt the inner peace. She knew it was there now. She held the mic with no struggle, she knew there was double grace upon her life. This was a fresh start and God had given her a second chance.
‘’Speaking of secrets, I see you like the orange heels I gave you so much, this is the second time I’m seeing it on you in a week’’, wow Kenny thought. It was David? ‘’You’re my secret admirer?’’ Kenny asked.

. ‘’secret admirer?’’ David asked, amused at her choice of words. ‘’well then, let’s make it public. I think its time for me to tell you this Kenny’’. What? Kenny wondered but she didn’t ask aloud. ‘’I’ve been praying about this for a long time now, and I even told my parents who have also been praying, they already gave me a go ahead. After all the prayers, I’m convinced that God wants us to be a team. And the fact that I fell for you actually helped make things easier. I want you to be by my side Kenny, be the mother of my children, let’s be the team that achieves purpose’’, Kenny was speechless. Like she literally forgot all the words she could have said at that moment. If she understood English correctly, David, the guy she had placed on a high pedestal was asking her to be his wife? What? How? Why? Seriously??
After about four to five minutes of silence, she asked. Can I get back to you?’’.
