Forever, Mitchell - Episode 18

 

"You have to come downstairs, maybe eat a little?" Katie says, sitting in the bed, stroking my hair off my shoulder.

I don't reply, just continue to close my eyes, soon enough when she is tired she will stand up and leave.

They've been doing this routine, everyday for the past 16 days and it's not going to change anything.

They will get tired and leave, it's not as if I'm ever going to stand up from this position, I'm going to grow old and die on this spot right here on Xavier's big bed.

The man came back that night, not to set me free, not to apologize for his rude words but to confiscate my phone and tell me not to step a foot out of this house.

Wow, I have such a loving husband, the only reason I'm still alive and well is because I get up to bath and and eat some chocolate bars that pearl bring upstairs for me.

I'm too ashamed to move, too ashamed to go down stairs, too ashamed and scared that I might see Tyler, how ever will I face him?

I finally got the full gist from Pearl, Apparently the only reason my loving husband got married to me was because Tyler had claimed me as his family, he had claimed Gina, Wallace needed proof and the closest thing he could do because Tyler was taken under custody by Wallace was bring proof that he was married to me.

Wallace saw proof, allowed Tyler leave and now I'm stuck with the ice beast. 

I snuggle deeper into the bed and katie sighs.

"She's not getting up?" a voice asks and it's pearls, Katie must have shake her head because pearl sighs before moving to the bed. 

I frown, this is a new strategy, normally they would  have left by now. 

"You think staying in bed and sulking is the best way to go about things now?" Pearl asks and I feel indignation at her words, sulking? She thinks I'm sulking? 

"You have to get up and let the household know that you own this joint now, you haven't even introduced yourself as the new mistress of this house" 

I find it reasonable to speak at this  point. 

"I don't want them to know shit about me, I'm getting out of here as soon as I can" 

"Are you serious? You think Xavier Knox is going to let you go? Have you ever see him lose?" 

"Well he's going to start now" 

"Why? Why are you deluding yourself? Acting like a child? This is your new life now, there's nothing you can do about it, it's up to you to live it" She continues, reasoning with me. 

I don't want to see reason whatsoever. 

I don't reply, Katie sighs before tipping my world.

"You think you are free from the line of fire don't you? The household is against you, madam K is out to get you, the other girls are angry at you, saying you slept your way to the top, they don't even want to know if you were in danger" She says a hint of sympathy in her voice. 

This gets to me, and  for the first time in a while I roll around to look at her... "What?" I ask, confusion plain in my voice. 

"Don't ask what? Do you think that you are the only one against this relationship? Everyone is, from the mice in this house to the bedbug in the chairs, they hate you, you are the most hated person alive right now, and you being in here, acting like a Caribbean princess is doing nothing to help, this behavior might be interpreted as you acting spoiled and mighty all over everyone, never forget that you need allies and that your husband isn't here to save you from all the verbal attacks you will be getting "Katie continues and my chest tightens, she's right. 

" And don't forget Wallace "Pearl says. 

" Wallace? "I echo. 

"Yes, Wallace, do you think he's going to let you go? He's a smart man, he has to be where he is now, he knows Xavier tried you to save his brother, he's going to be waiting for the right opportunity, if Xavier shows any signs of dropping you he will be there swooping you off your feet and not in a good way "She, Katie says and I swallow the spit that has suddenly gathered in my mouth. 

" You have to get up now, you have to start gathering your allies, because trust me, Xavier is going to get tired and when he does you have to do everything you can to stay alive" 

She says before giving pearl a tap and they  both get to their feet, giving me time to think. 

I do, I think, what they say, everything is correct, Xavier is not going to spontaneously fall in love with me and decide to stay forever. 

I have to woman up and I have to do it now. 

A girl must do what a girl must do. 

And if it means I have to step on a few toes? That's fine by me, I have to put a stop to all the rumors, I have to get up. 

I roll off the bed, no matter how soft Xavier bed is, it still isn't mine. 

I pad to the bathroom, pulling off my nightie, I take a shower and I exit, I walk to the closet Xavier prepared for me, it's full. 

I pull out a black gown that's flowy but has slits on both sides, I slip in my white bunny flip flops and I walk down stairs. 

The chatter quietens as I appear, Katie and pearl bow but there's a little smile on their faces. 

I walk to the  dining room and my food is spread out, I take a seat at the head of the table.
