An Arranged Marriage - Episode 50

 

Anaya

"So what's the great news?" I ask, buttering my roll and trying to remember to act surprised when I hear my sister tell me she is pregnant.

It wasn't that hard to notice stuff with them, she's been having trouble eating these days and Kane has literally been doting on her.

He refuses to allow her climb the stairs.

"So, we thought about this at length first.. And we thought since we are with family we should let you know first" She says, her eyes going to her husband who kisses her knuckles.

I feel a twitch in my heart at the love in his eyes, I want that, I realize , I want that, what they have, I want that for myself.

I refuse to glance at Cash, he's not my guaranteed happiness.

Although things happened with us that morning, he's made no other move and even though I haven't... . Wait, what's stopping me from even making a move? Who says a guy has to make all the moves.

I suddenly realize I'm going to try and if he doesn't give me any sort of sign that its  going to work then I will move on.

I make that promise to myself.

"We..uh..we are pregnant" Anadia says finally and I realize I kind of tuned out her speech, the twins gasp and I break a grin, dropping my roll unto my plate.

"Are you serious?" Aroos asks.

"Do you know what you are having?" Aroofa squeals?

"Oh My God, I finally have a little one I can play dress-up with" Linda says and I'm not surprised she is already thinking ahead.

"We don't know what we are having yet, it's just been 2 months, the doctor says we will find out after another two months"She says.

" Congrats "Cash mutters, a pleasant look on his face" 

" Oh, my God, this is awesome " Linda says. 

" Congratulations sister "I mutter and she beams.

My sister is being taken cared of, she is glowing and I throw a grateful look at Kane, he nods back. 

We settle down to eat. 

"Caspian?" Anadia calls, only she calls him that, he immediately tunes to her.

"I just realized I don't know when your birthday is" she says and looks at her husband expectantly.

"I don't celebrate birthdays"

"I didn't ask that, I'm asking when it is"

"Next month" Linda says and Kane throws her a look.

"June?"

"Yeah"He mutters.

" Ohhh, mine is in August "She says and his body kind of freezes, I glance at his siblings and they look the same way.

What?

Do they hate birthdays so much?

"What's wrong? "I ask and Anadia finally notices the reaction her birthday proclamation garnered.

"Is something the matter "

"No princess, it's nothing "

"You sure? "

"Uh uh "

"Okay good, because I love birthdays and I'm throwing you a big party "

"What ever makes you happy darling" He says and she beams.

"Ohhh, I have an idea, let's do a baby shower!" Linda squeals and the twins nod enthusiastically too.

"Baby shower?" Anadia asks, glancing at Kane.

"You want one babe?"

"Uh uh"

He leans forward to kiss her head.

"For giving me a baby darling you deserve everything, a baby shower inclusive" He says and she pouts before smiling, leaning to kiss his cheek.

I look away, this thing between them is too raw for me to see, anytime they get like this I feel like an intruder.

"Okay! Well! Let's have one after you go for the first ultrasound, yeah?" Linda asks and I can see the party wheels turning in her brain.

"Let's do it" Anadia says and the twins squeal, I feel excited at the prospect of a party too.

When I clear the dinner plates away I make my way upstairs, I pass by Cash's room and stop.

Deciding there is no time like the present.

I knock.

"Who?"

"Anaya" He pauses.

"Come in" I push the door open and he's sitting by his work desk,he stands when I enter the room.

"Hey" I say.

"Hey" He says back, I look around the room, it's the first time I've been in here.

"Is there a problem?" He asks.

"Is there a reason why you haven't made any other move towards me?" I ask and my face flames at how forward I sounded.

"Uh?"

Well, I started it, so I should finish.

"Well, we are always together but not once have you tried to kiss me or anything, I'm getting tired of  waiting" I say, wondering if that was the best thing to say.

"You want me to kiss you?"

"Isn't that obvious?"

"No" He says and I glare at him.

"Fine, whatever, what I really want to know is if there is any chance between us, like should I stop waiting?" I ask and he tilts his head.

"Anaya..."

"It's a yes or no answer really"

"I don't want you to stop waiting" He says and warmth settle in my stomach.

"But it's going to take a while before I can come to you, there are things... Things I have to work through first"

He says and the warmth in my stomach disappears.

"These things you have to work through, is it guaranteed I will be with you in the end?" I ask earnestly.

"Yes" He says simply, "There is no other option" He says and I smile.

"Promise me" I say and he steps into my space.

"I promise" He says before bending down to kiss me.

I kiss him back because I really do, I like kissing a lot and it's been so long since I...

"You are in your head" He says against my lips.

"What?"

"You are distracted, I'm kissing you and you are distracted, I must not be doing something right" He says before kissing me again and this time I stop thinking about everything.

He breaks the kiss, leaning his head on mine. 

"I will try not to make you wait long baby" He says and I nod, kissing his cheek before sinking into his embrace.
