The man behind the girl who was apparently the leader burst into a laugh “You are not what I was expecting. The way he mouthed off about you, I expected to see a woman the size of a man with scars of war on her face and a big sword in her hands”. Turning to face the little girl, he tightened his grip around her neck and shook her vigorously, “Don’t tell me you made a mistake?”

The girl yowled in pain, “I didn’t. I swear, this is the one that call Sewa”.

The man studied Sewa again, taking in the petite woman before him, “I thought I was going to be entertained . I have never seen a woman fight like the way he said. I thought I would be faced with a challenge, certainly not with this”, he said disappointedly, pointing at Sewa.

The man behind Sewa laughed and licked his lips, “Oga, we can entertain ourselves. You know”. He said as he winked thrusting his waist, his performance earning laughter and nods of agreement from his peers.

“Go on boys, do what you want then”, the leader said as he sat relaxed on a rock.

The moment the man behind Sewa laid his hand on her shoulder, she held the hand tightly and drew him forward in one fluid motion, driving her dagger in his armpit. The man’s scream was short lived as she immediately buried the dagger in his throat

. In five seconds, the man who had hoped to satiate his lust lay on the floor breathless and dead with his eyes widened in shock.

Before the others could react, Sewa sent her second dagger flying straight to the man on her left. The man lithely sidestepped to the right, dodging the dagger with ease. Sewa smiled to herself. They always fell for the same trick. She sprang to her left, her sword unsheathed and she lunged at him.

“Watch out, you fool!” the leader of the crew shouted, taken aback by Sewa’s speed and agility.

The man only heard the warning after seeing his decapitated body lying three feet away from his head. The remaining two lunged at her with their machetes, failing miserably, as she danced gracefully away from their reach.

The leader, now filled with fury and caution, unsheathed his sword and tiptoed silently searching for an opening. The first assailer swung his sword widely, furious in his inability to cut down Sewa. “Stay still”, he murmured angrily. Her second opponent stepped back, not wanting to set caught in one of the random swings of his frustrated partner. He waited patiently for his chance to fight but was soon surprised when Sewa ducked a wild swing from her first assailer and ran straight for him unexpectedly. Surprised, his legs became leaden, “by the gods, she is fast” he muttered. And so he raised his sword to guard himself as a last resort but Sewa slid on her knees across the ground, slashing adroitly at his exposed belly. The man staggered and stumbled, struggling to hold back his insides.
Her first foe roared in frustration at the death of his associate and charged at her. Sewa readied herself into a stance as her hands gripped her sword tightly, anticipating her attacker’s next move. She felt a heavy blow at the back of her head and stumbled to her knees dazed and confused. As she looked up to get a glimpse of her unexpected attacker, her face was stomped into the ground and she heard a maniac laughter.

“Bastard, you killed my men!” she heard the leader of the crew bawling bitterly. She cussed herself for being careless.

. Preoccupied with her fight, she had forgotten about their leader.

“He was right after all. You are full of surprises”, he said as he rammed his foot against her ribs. Sewa screamed in pain. Clutching her stomach, she crawled towards her sword but her other opponent kicked it away from her reach.

“Oga, let me do it”, he said. The leader nodded and spat at Sewa.

With a grin on his face, her first assailer raised his sword high preparing to bring it down on her. As he bent to bury the sword in her, an arrow pierced through his guts and he clenched his stomach surprised to see an arrow protruding through him. He turned back slowly and the last thing he saw was a man swinging a sword across his face.

Duro jumped over the man before his body reached the ground and charged at the leader of the crew. He lunged at his opponent and the leader guarded himself with his sword. Filled with fury, Duro swung and thrust his sword in quick succession pushing his opponent back as the man struggled to keep up. Duro heard a whistle and crouched, glaring at the man with hate.

The leader looked down at Duro in surprise, “Why is he hunkering? Did I strain himself with all those moves. Never mind that, this is my chance”, he thought as he raised his sword above his head with a smile of victory on his lips.

Before his smile fully formed, Monifa sent the next arrow straight through his face.
