Regret - Episode 18

 

"So, what else do you need?" Amy asked after she had put the poison in her bag.
"Nothing else, this is a cheque for two million naira, when you finish the task, you can come back for the remainder ". She said as she placed an already signed cheque in front of Amy.
"I'll be on my way", Amy said as she stood up to go. 
Amy walked out very quickly. She went back to her son in the hospital. 

Meanwhile that same day, Lola and Tonye had come to visit Rose. 
"So you said that you've visited your mom three times since that day?" Tonye asked.
"You're right, two times with Sara, it was fun . The third time I went alone, we had great mother and daughter bonding time. I loved it. My only problem is Mike, I just hope he doesn't find out, if he does, I'll be in hot soup" Rose complained. 
"C'mon, it's not like there is anyone out there  that jobless that will go and start telling him" Tonye said. 
"Hmmm... Don't say that, you've not heard of those people that do carry other people's problems for them" Lola said.
"Yes, I forgot to tell you guys, my maid, Amy, she came here today, just like an hour before you guys came"
"What did she say her problem was?" Tonye asked. 
"She told me that she was sick that was the reason why she has not been coming" Rose replied. 
"I don't know why it sounds like a lie" Lola said. 
"Exactly, my sister, I was just about to say that" Tonye put in. 
"Even if she was sick, couldn't she call or at least send a text" Tonye added. 
"You people should not just judge her, You don't know the circumstances she was surrounded in, don't just conclude" Rose said. 
"Hmmm, okay oo" Lola said. 
"Rose, do you know what your problem is?" Tonye asked. 
"What is my problem?" Rose asked squinting her face. 
"Your problem is that you trust people a lot" Tonye answered. 
"And do you know what your problem is too?" Rose asked Tonye. 
"What?"
"You always choose to look at the negative side of everything, the bad side of people, you'll never notice the good side" Rose replied. 
"Hmmm, You'll be busy looking at the good side, when something happens don't say I didn't inform you oo"
"Yes, I've heard" Rose said shaking her head. 
"Anyways, I told her to start work tomorrow, I'm happy because if she hadn't come back it would have been so difficult for me to find someone new. All these young girls that would be snatching someone's husband

. Although she's old, she does everything with energy. I like her" Rose said in conclusion. 
"So how is Sara and Mike, your husband ?" Lola asked. 
"They're all fine, I've been trying my best possible to stay out of Mike's way, it's yielding results though, but I still get angry slaps and stares once in a while. I just pray God will listen to my prayers and make my marriage happy again. I pray he would change my husband".
"Rose, don't worry we're also praying for you. Things will change by God's grace" Tonye said. 
"Thank you my friend. Rose said.

The next morning, Amy had come early to work.
"Oh Amy, you're here already" Rose said as she opened the door for her to come in. 
By that time, Mike had already gone to work and Sara had gone to school too. It was a Thursday. Amy only came to work three times a week. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. She knew she would not be able to carry out her plan. It was too early to do it. But she couldn't wait too long, her son didn't have much time. She decided that Saturday would be the best day to do it. Since Sara would be at home throughout and she would be the one to serve her breakfast and lunch, it was way better. Throughout that day, her mind was absent. Rose noticed it and decided to ask her about it. 
"Amy, you seem absent, is there anything wrong ?" Rose asked. 
She got no reply. She tapped Amy on the shoulder.
"Yes madam" Amy said startled. 
"Amy, it seems there's something wrong, if it's anything, you can tell me about it". Rose said Amy didn't know what to tell Rose. Something was definitely wrong. She didn't even know what worried her more, the fact that her son was laying on his dying bed or the other fact that she was about to kill somebody to save her own son. And this was not just anybody, it was Sara, her madam's daughter. This woman was standing in front of her with a worried look on her face just because she felt there was something wrong with her. What would then happen when her only daughter dies. Will she be able to endure it? Amy asked herself. This happy woman standing in front of her was about to become the saddest woman on earth and it would be her fault. Would she be able to live with it?
