Once Upon A Lie - Episode 6

 

QUOLA KINGDOM

“Is the servant not yet back with the reply?” the prince asked. 

“No, my prince” Jalami replied “I have sent another servant this morning to go to the border to check the situation of things there.”

“You’ve done well, Chief Jalami” The prince said in-between his heavy breaths, pacing the palace.

“Patience, my prince. Everything will be fine.”
 
“And where has Birian been? He knows this situation requires urgency, yet he has been out of here since yesterday and--” the prince was interrupted when a servant came in shouting.

“My prince, my prince” the servant shouted from outside . Jalami went outside to meet him and saw him soaked with blood.

“What happened? What has happened?” Jalami asked the servant but he kept panting. 
The prince got down to meet him.

“My prince,” the servant said as he caught his breath “when I got there, I saw...”

EPISODE 6

The sun shone on Marita’s face and she struggled to open her eyes. 

“It’s noon already”, she thought. She tried to move her body but failed. 

She began to think “so the prince didn’t come yesterday and now I’m badly injured

. Before evening, I will probably be dead, mission failed. What would happen...” her thoughts were interrupted by the voice of men. 

They seem to be two, she thought. 
She tried to move a bit to confirm her thoughts but groaned deeply because of the pain. She suddenly didn’t hear the voices again.
 
“Was it just an illusion or are they leaving?” she thought  “I should cry for help, but will they hear me? What if they are bad people? Assassins?”

“At least I will know I tried my best. I can’t surrender to death” she concluded in her mind.
 
“Help me!” she cried out with all her might. She groaned again. She began to hear footsteps and voices coming nearer. “They must’ve heard me” she thought hopefully. 

“Please help” she said, before her eyes started closing on their own.

FUOLE’S POV

“Help me” I heard faintly. It seems the lady is totally exhausted, the voice is so faint. 

I turned to Ahleera “I hear her voice, the lady.”

“She must be around here, her voice doesn’t seem distant” Ahleera said. 

He walked towards the edge of the hill while I walked down. The sight I saw made me gasp loudly. 

Ahl walked up to me and pursed his lips.
We both ran to the lady whose clothes and flesh have been torn and coloured with fresh and dried blood.

“Looking at her, she probably fell from the top” Ahl said, standing. I kept mute, thinking. 

““What do you say, my prince?” he asked.

I bent over her. This is my concern.

Should I help her or not? She will need consistent medical care, the way I look at her. How will I help her? 

As if he could hear my thoughts, Ahl said “My prince, I don’t think we can help her. What if we can’t find anyone to help? What if she dies? What if...”

The lady opened her eyes a bit and frailly said “Please help me, please”. 

She reached out to me and I held her hand. Our eyes were locked for few seconds before she fell unconscious.

I held her hands even tighter, gave her another look, and turned to see Ahleera’s confused face. 

“Fuole, you can’t help her for long.” He said “Where will you---?”
 
“Get the horse”. I said

“But this may not end---” Ahleera tried to warn me again but I interrupted.

“Get the horse!”

“Thank God you found her when you did. If not, she might’ve passed away” the doctor said. “Ensure you give her these to drink. I have written the proper usage on the paper and don’t forget to apply these too” he pointed to some herbs on the stool. 

“Okay Uncle, thanks for coming to my aid” I thanked him and signaled to Ahl to escort him home. 

I had asked Ahleera to ride to Dairo’s place and see if his uncle who is a doctor is around. I had hoped so or we would have to involve the royal doctor and I dIdn’t want to. 

I stayed with the young lady, cleaned her wounds and applied the herbs I could find around to stop the bleeding. 
Luckily for us, he was around and he took us to a house he owns some metres away from the forest. It required a bit of cleaning up because no one stays there. He attended to her well. 

My concern now is, it’s evening already and she isn’t awake yet. I can’t just leave her here still unconscious and I have to be home in time or else father will have my head. The doctor said she will be awake soon but...

A soft groan broke my train of thoughts. I looked back to see brown eyes staring at me. 

“You… you’re awake” I stuttered. She batted her long lashes at me. 

“My God, such beauty!” I thought.

“Water” she said in a whisper, stretching her hand to me. “Give me…”

“Don’t disturb yourself” I said, putting down her stretched arms. I reached over to the stool and put water in the mug. I sat beside her raised her head up and put the mug to her mouth to drink.

. She looked surprised and looked at me for a moment. I urged her with my eyes to drink up and she did. Ahleera took that moment to enter.

I put the mug down and signaled to Ahleera to come outside. Sparing a glance at the young lady, she looked like she has many questions. Well, I do too.
 
“Just going outside here for few minutes. Will be back very soon”. She nodded.

“What’s the name?” she asked. “In case something happens…”

“Fuole” I interrupted. 
Well, she is smart, I thought.

“And yours?” I asked

“Marita” she replied.
