Journey - Episode 4

 

They met almost every afternoon and they'd talk for hours about anything and everything. He wanted to be a biochemist,  graduate with a first class,  to be the best, to put it simply, he had this aggressive drive to succeed that just amazed her. Yet he came from a moneyed background and somehow he didn't take that for granted. Something he said once had struck her and never left.  He said,  my parents achievements have nothing to do with me,  they've live their life, accumulated their money,  their accolades, now it's time for me strive to be better than they were.  He was her awakening . She had taken everything for granted,  been ungrateful because of her past, the pain and her mother's one near fatal mistake. She would be better. That was the upside to their friendship. The downside, the entire school thought they were a couple and Tasha along with her little group of friends kept teasing her about it. 

Same as everyday, at the same time she was about to finish lunch Tasha stepped into the cafeteria and made a bee line straight for her table. Someday I'm going to figure out how you know exactly where to find me. Well, my ever predictable other half you run your life like a military recruit.  Sleep at 0800 hours, eat at 0900, heck you've probably picked specific dates and times to get married and to have kids

. I'm not even going to dignify that statement with a response. So,  what is it today? Well... I just heard about the freshers/Xmas party coming up in two weeks. So?  Oh come on, first of all we're going and then we need to get outfits, get our hair done.  Hold it!  If you want to attend this party first of all... you're going on your own. Secondly, I'm not wasting cash on unnecessary outfits or makeovers. You have a perfectly good wardrobe. You sound like mom. Well she's not here so someone has to keep you in check. Someone should have kept her in check when she married him.  Natasha!!! I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that. Why? I don't know, I just found out Hopes last name is George. I guess it brought back memories. They're a lot of people from Rivers state with that last name. I know, just forget it. I'm.... where's that hunk who's usually attached to you? Don't roll your eyes at me. OK,  he stepped out to take a call,  you know how rowdy it gets in here.  Alright, I'll disappear before he gets back but you really should date him.  Why?  Furthermore,  because he's tall,  dark,  handsome, a gentleman and he's got a brain. He's my dream man and you got him handed to you on a platter. A dream man with a temper. Everyone can't be perfect and not everyone with a temper is Tony's George. Hmmm. So do I have to tell you what to do with him?  You do this everyday you know it's getting old.  What,  Tasha asked innocently. Try to convince me that Philip's perfect at least for me  but first, I have trust issues and he has a temper. Tony's George was sweeter than sugar when he was just Uncle Tee and dads best friend. So I'm wary of tempers. Secondly, we came over here to study not to get romantically involved with cute boys.  Emm,  thats just you cos I came for both. We can get the makeovers but we'll find something to wear from what we have. Ok, your cutie just walked in so I'm outta here. Hey Phil. Tasha. Aren't you staying? To watch the both of you lie to yourself that you're only ever going to be just friends? Nope. See y'all around. She's a pain I know. Yeah, yet you can't help but love her. 
Two weeks flew by quickly and suddenly, Christmas was in the air.  Decorations were up and carols were playing everywhere. It was hard to believe she'd been in college for months. The time just seemed to fly by and exams were starting in a few days.  While she should have been studying, at Tashas request she was getting her eyebrows plucked,  her legs waxed, nails were being done,  a pair of fake lashes were added to her already voluminous lashes and on top of it all she had to wear makeup. 

I don't want to go.  Come on,  don't be a spoil sport you look amazing. If I look anything like you do,  I'd say I look like a slut. Ouch that hurts. Sorry sis but that's just how I feel. Both of you we're going to be late. Hope,  can you give us a few minutes but no offence, thanks for the makeup but it's a little too heavy for my taste. Hope you don't mind if I take it off? It's your face, do as you please. Tasha, sit. You want to take mine off too don't you? Yep.  Reaching for her wipes, she took off all the makeup and started to reapply it with a lighter hand.  Sticking to neutral colors around the eyes with the double winged liner and as the only drama around the eyes. She did the same for herself using pink lipstick for Tasha and red for herself. Somehow, they both managed to be ready in under ten minutes. Smoothing the lines of her blue crop-top and skater skirt, she stepped her hosed legs into a pair of black ankle boots. Their outfits were completely different. The only similarity was the shoes.  Tasha had a crop top on under a black leather jacket and blue jeans. She looked like a biker.  She heard the taxi horn and they hurried down the stairs,  out of the hostel and into the taxi where hope was waiting. Just as she stepped into the taxi she noticed that they're hostel was almost empty. Some party, she said to herself already dreading the night ahead.
