Eric Today determined my future. Whether I would return home a Victor or lose the throne. I was convinced Maisy would fight for what she thought we shared but still, I could not be so sure. I had to be one step ahead. Swallowing my last pill, I headed outside.

Spencer was waiting for me just outside. The man was eager to get me out of his life as quickly as he could.

"The horse is outside and I prepared some food in case you get hungry."

I sent him a warm smile I managed to muster . If Maisy was going to do anything, She had to do it now. Sh*t, I cursed silently when I realized she wasn't coming out. She backed down and at the wrong moment. Everything I had hoped for, my high ships came crashing down. The walk of shame followed each step lead him closer to the mare. I contemplated hitting Spencer with any object I could find.

"You're a Clarke after all."

My father's haunting voice echoed. I took a deep breath and reached into my sac where my trusty sledge hammer resided. I planned my next move. I had to be hard and quick, Any little slip up could cost me everything.

"Wait!"

Maisy stopped me. I gave a malevolent smile then turned to her.

"What's wrong?"

Her father quizzed but her eyes remained on me. I could see their pain

. Poor, poor Maisy.

"I have to tell you something father."

Maisy disclosed, sucking in a deep breath.

"Can't it wait...Eric is leaving and I have to escort him..."

"No father, It can't wait."

She interjected. I was literally beaming inside. What a pathetic excuse for a woman. She actually thought fundamental relationships could be formed in three days. It was jarring I hadn't bedded her already, Not that I intended to. All I needed was her help and when that settled, we would honor separate ways like we never met. Her father tensed up and massaged his pulsing forehead tenderly. If only he knew what his sweet daughter was going to say to him. He was going to be shattered after this. I could barely wait.

"It's about Eric....Eric and I."

She stammered, her eyes letting out beautiful waterworks. Drama queen. This was surely going to be a stage work I would enjoy.

"What about you...and him?"

He sent invisible daggers right me but that was just child's play. I had the immunity I needed, his daughter's heart wrapped in my bristled fingers. One mistake and he would crush his daughter to the very soul, So much that she might consider eloping with me. Whatever choice Spencer made, I would be the winner. I was my father's son after all.

"I love Eric."

She revealed. The drumrolls reeled in and I patiently waited for what would happen next. Just like I had predicted, Spencer whacked Maisy hard in the face. It sent her to another crying frenzy. Spencer turned to me.

"Leave this place before I return or I promise you I'll kill you. No matter what status you think you hold."

He threatened and stormed off. Empty threats. When he was out of sight, My attention returned to Maisy who took the earth as her solitude. I joined her and wiped away her tears. It worked like a charm. She stared at me, hurt and humiliated, regretting her decision. "It's okay Maisy. I'm here for you." I placated.

"No, you're not."

She pushed away.

"Go away!"

She yelled at me, obviously blaming me for her predicament. It took a lot not to snare but I knew what she wanted. To be reassured that even if the world was against her, Someone cared, Someone would stand by her.

"I'm not leaving you here."

I returned, eying her with sympathy and love in my eyes.

"Thank you."

She sobbed and hugged me tightly. The glistening object coming from inside the house caught my attention and I saw Spencer heading outside with a riffle. He wanted me dead. I ignored his presence until the metal poked me right in the head.

"Get away from her now!"

He commanded. Maisy got hysterical.

"What is wrong with your father?"

Spencer shoved her aside.

"You are too emotional right now Maisy. You don't know what kind of slithering serpent he is." Now I had to play my lines right,

"I don't care if you kill me. I love your daughter and can't live without her. If you want your petty rivalry with my father to get in the way of your daughter's happiness, then shoot me dead."

Spencer corked the gun and was ready to fire. Maisy stopped him by getting right in front of me. "You can't do this father. I love him."

"No, you don't!"

Spencer shot back,

"Relationships aren't formed in a week. He's using you and I can only blame myself for even letting him near you."

"I love your daughter."

I spat just to add salt to his wounds. He used the gun on my sharp mouth and I had a taste of the copper liquid. This made Maisy lose it.

"This is why I kept it a secret from you!"

Spencer became quiet and dropped his rifle. "What are you saying Maisy?"

"I'm saying you keep treating me like a child! I'm an adult and I can make my life choices. You have no right to choose who I can love."

Spencer embraced his daughter.

"I'm not trying to boss you Maisy. You can love whoever you want but I'm afraid for you. You don't know what his kind are, what they are capable of." "No!" Maisy pushed him away, "His kind? Father, you're so obsessed with hating him because if something his father did." Spencer wasn't done yet, "If I didn't forget, What makes you think his family forgot?" He quizzed. This part was actually hilarious. I enjoyed toying with his mind. The best part was, he would do anything to keep Maisy from me. I enjoyed hunting but in this case, I had my prey by the throat.

"You think he'd marry me for revenge?" Maisy asked her father, surprised he'd even think that way.

"I'm saying..."

Maisy brushed him off and joined me. She clutched my hands for support. "Now I want to know something father, Do you approve of us or not?" The hunt was over. My prey was lifeless in a pool of its own blood and now I could enjoy the chewy goodness within. I felt pity for Spencer. He actually thought I wanted to marry Maisy for revenge. It was far from that.

"Do I have a choice?" The hesitation in his voice reassured me I had them where I needed them to be. Imagine my grin when I heard the word 'Yes'.

***

Maisy It was a bohemian wedding in the late afternoon. The area faced the breathtaking sunset, a sight I enjoyed watching each day. It was actually my father's idea. Despite him refusing to bless my marriage to Eric, He made up his mind to be a part of my wedding for my sake. I was clad in a simple white gown that wasn't necessarily new. I used the cloth for special occasions like weddings and now I was using it for mine. It was adorned with nature's own gift, making it look brand new. I felt like a bride, one I needed to be. The venue wasn't an extravaganza, the end of each seated aisle, jasmine-scented candles hung from naked tree branches.

Spread down the aisle, were leaves scattered to make a comfy carpet, as far as the eyes could see, slightly moist so they wouldn't crack when they were being stepped on. A small group of close family friends dressed in their best attire for support, I was getting married to a Prince after all.

On either side of the aisle, they sat in stools set up for them on the sand.

"Okay Maisy, you need to breathe Can you do that for me??" one of my bridesmaids asked. I didn't know her personally but I was thankful she noticed. Only minutes remained before my wedding began; I was nervous just like the first time I went to the river with him. "I will try," I said to her. I just need my mother's necklace to calm down. Father had given to me as a parting gift. I clutched to it tight, almost feeling my mother's presence. I saw Eric waiting at the end of the aisle and he looked just as nervous as I was. At least, I wasn't alone. Finally, the priest arrived and asked every to stand. It was my turn! I had watched friends get married, bow it was my time. All eyes were on me. I immediately felt self-conscious and my cheeks turned beet red. The flower girl lined the path, I would walk with white rose petals as the music started. I only took two steps out before I began to feel dizzy, the nausea was eating me deep. Luckily, my father came to the rescue. He escorted me down the aisle, which seemed longer than before. He became my strength; without him, I would faint. The guests stared at me, waving at me, smiling- one thing was for sure, though no one made a sound.  Up ahead I saw him, Eric. My future husband, the love of my life, my everything. He stood taller, his shoulders back and his starry eyes on me.  If I wasn't mistaken I could have sworn tears filled his eyes but that was just my feelings messing up with my mind. At the end of the aisle, my father hugged me,

"I'm proud of you"

He a knowledged and then presented me to my groom. I felt nothing but pain. Even if he wasn't okay with me and Eric, he supported me. Father placed my hand in Eric's and smiled. As a couple, Eric and I stood in front of the priest before my father walked away. He didn't talk to Eric and as much as it was upsetting, I knew he was doing his best to handle this situation.

. I briefly tried to focus on me, My big day. "You're beautiful," Eric said to me in a hushed tone. I blushed. "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today, to witness this man and woman join together in holy matrimony..."

The priest began. He was quick, Heaven must have known how much I was dying to officially make Eric mine. I could pick out girl gossip from the crowd of how I managed to trap a prince. The exchange began. The ring bearer can with the rings and Eric took the first turn,

"I, Eric, take you, Maisy to be my wife, my constant friend, my faithful partner and my love from this day forward. In the presence of our family and friends, I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, and in joy as well as in sorrow. I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honor and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live."

He swore with nothing but compassion then pushed the ring into my annulary. It sealed our bond for all eternity.

(Now we can get to the juicy part)
