‘Jabali I need the truth about my brother’s death,’ Neema said the moment she entered into the study room where Jabali was since they previous night. Once they made it home, he had disappeared into the room and hardly left if. She was aware that he had had his meals in there. A blanket was on the sofa. He was avoiding her again . She wondered if the mistress allegations were true. She swallowed down her disappointment and decided to focus on important things. Jabali could keep his mistress for all she cared. Their marriage was a sham anyway. Then why did a something inside her die every time she thought Jabali was out with another woman?

Neema doubted if it was the right time to confront Jabali about what Lulu had confided in her but she couldn’t wait.

It was in the middle of the night and she couldn’t sleep. She kept replaying what Lulu had told her on her head and she couldn’t stop thinking that Jabali was innocent and someone else killed her brother. The same person who killed their father. Neema’s blood ran cold and he couldn’t fathom how wrong she had been.

‘Neema I don’t want to go through that with you again. Am innocent and I proved it in court.’ Jabali said from where he was sitting behind the desk on his laptop. He had lost his evening jacket and loosened his tie

. The room was lit by the table lamp on his desk and it created an ominous mood in the room.

‘What else do you want to hear, hmmm’ Jabali closed his laptop and turned to her, ‘what if I killed him? Will that change anything? He is dead anyway,’

Neema could see him putting his defenses up already and she knew this was going to be difficult than she thought. If Lulu had been saying the truth then she had been accusing the wrong man over and over again of the death of her brother.

‘Okay I admit it. I killed Jabali. I took the sword from my bedroom and stabbed him because I caught him stealing from my father. Does that give you closure? Answer me Neema. Dou you feel better after I have admitted that?’ Jabali’s tone was turning hysterical with each passing minute, ‘why do we have to discuss about this every day? He asked at last with a sigh.

‘You didn’t do it.’ Neema whispered and found herself moving towards him, where he was seated on the desk, ‘you didn’t kill Naiti,’

‘What?’ Jabali was perplexed at her

‘I know everything. I know of his activities inside the mountain, I know he was smuggling tea from your father’s plantations. I know he was investigating my father’s mysterious disappearence and he was trying to find our fathers burial site. He was killed while searching for this information and you were framed for his murder,’ Neema didn’t know tears were falling down her eyes as she uttered every word. She had ended up kneeling before Jabali chair and covering her face with her hand.

Jabali didn’t hesitate to pick her up and placed her on his laps and holding her closer as she cried her heart out. She snaked her hands through his neck and held on tightly to him.

‘I am sorry Jabali. I blamed you for something that you didn’t do. You were trying to help Naiti get to the truth but you ended up being dragged up in this rabbit hole…’

‘Shh Neema sweetheart stop crying. You are breaking my heart,’ Jabali held her and whispered sweet nothing to her as Neema talked incoherently through her tears.

‘I should have trusted you from the word go.’ Neema said after she had managed to control her tears from flowing

‘Where did you hear all this?’ Jabali asked after sometime,

‘I visited Lulu and to my surprise she had a child with Naiti. She called him Naiti after his father.’ Neema said wiping her tears. Naiti Jnr. Was the only ray of shining in all of the chaos she was facing. ‘She had been in a relationship with Naiti prior to his murder. She left town before anyone could notice her baby bump,’

‘So you have meet little Naiti,’ Jabali sighed and Neema had a feeling Jabali had known all along the presence of Naiti Jnr. She tried sitting up straighter but Jabali pulled her head closer to his chest where she had been laying. She didn’t have the energy to fight him so she relaxed again and let his strong arms hold her. she burrowed her head in his chest.

‘Your brother and Lulu were serious about there relationship before his murder Neema.’ Jabali confirmed her, his voice somber.

‘Majid destroyed my whole family I will not let him get away with it. He will pay.’ Neema whispered fisting her hands.

‘Majid didn’t do it,’ Jabali countered,

‘He …didn’t? then who killed Naiti?’ Neema was perplexed,

‘I have been investigating this for years and I have come to some conclusions. I have my suspicions but I don’t have concrete evidence yet. But I can assure you that I am working on it day and night to catch Naiti’s killer and my attacker,’

Neema lower lip trembled she had been busy accusing Jabali of being Naiti’s killer to notice he was also a victim. When he had been brought to police custody together with Naiti’s dead body he had also escaped with deep injuries and cuts on his body. Neema could remember the picture clearly on her head.

‘I should have listened to you from the word go Jabali. I don’t deserve your forgiveness,’ she shook her head in regret,

‘Hey don’t say that,’ Jabali lifted her chin by his thumb finger and looked deeply into her eyes. ‘it is all in the past and now we move on. I will never do anything to harm you.

. You are very important to me Neema. You were important then and you are still important now nothing has changed,’ he punctuated his sentence by dropping small kisses all over her face.

‘Jabali…i…’

‘You don’t know how your presence calmed me Neema. My life was chaos, dealing with my mother’s death and my father’s authoritarian parenting I was lost then you came along. A bright light in my dark life.’

Neema’s could only look at him in awe. Her tears were proving hard to stop flowing and she was soaking up his shirt.

‘I love you Neema,’ he sealed those words with a deep kissing causing something inside her to snap and kiss him back with the same vigor. Her hands went behind his neck and she pulled him down towards her. she didn’t want any space between them even though the activity was proving difficult with the chair Jabali was seated on.

The kiss turned heated and she was practically running out of breath when Jabali abruptly stood up and walked towards the sofa, maneuvering her so that she was straddling him. His arms were like steel vice around her waist and she relished their strength and warmth.

‘I have dreamt of doing this for so long,’ he whispered against her skin when his started kissing her neck and nipping on her neck. Neema deep breaths turned to moans and silent pleas for more when he finally lowered her gently on the sofa.

For a second they separated and with clear intent in his dark eyes he slowly ripped his shirt open the buttons flying all over the room. Neema’s tongue went dry at the sight of his muscled chest and ripped stomach, with a mind of their own her hands reached out and touched him, causing him to groan, a deep sound that travelled down her spine.

Neema was sure what was going to happen, she realized that she had been waiting for this for a long time.

As he leaned towards her, his lips lightly touching her’s, Neema knew she couldn’t fight the feeling anymore.

She welcomed it.
