The wife - Episode 33
Nathan flinched feeling a sting in his wrist.
He forced his tired lids opened.
His eyes burned not used to the light.
The first question to pop into his mind was
'where was he?'
He sat up and his arm stung again.
He turned and ripped away the needle that caused the pain.
He could now make out that he was in a hospital but he couldn't make out why.
I survived. Nathan remembered being shot.
He checked the spot to see the bullet wound.
It was odd to just see a scar in place of what was supposed to be a fresh wound.
He let his finger linger around the scar wondering why it healed so fast.
He got out of his bed trying to stretch and ponder on what was happening.
Someone at the left whimpered, like they were in pain.
He turned to where the noise came from . "Adriana!" He rushed to her bedside.
Her face was squeezed and she continued to breathe heavily.
It had to be a nightmare.
She called out. He held her hands to ease her pain.
If Adriana was here, that means they both survived.
The door flung open and Rodriguez walked in.
"They're in the same room?"
He was so f*cked if Nathan remembered anything.
It was a shame Nathan was awake.
Rodriguez had planned to overdose his drip, anything that could cause him severe damage.
He called out and waited for his response.
Nathan craned backward and smiled.
"Rodriguez, what happened?"
He wasn't talking right, that high pitched childish voice was gone.
He watched Nathan leave Adriana and walk up to him.
Rodriguez knew whatever happened next would determine his fate but what he was sure of was he wasn't going to down without taking blood.
He dropped his hands into his waistband where he had managed to hide a penknife.
"Why are you sweating so much Rodriguez?"
Nathan asked, putting his hands on Rodriguez's shoulder.
Rodriguez's line of sight blurred for a second and his throat became obstructed.
He was being strangled.
"Are you ok?"
Nathan quizzed seeing Rodriguez was silent. Rodriguez returned to reality and gave Nathan an awkward smile.
He doesn't remember what I did.
This gave Rodriguez the inner peace he so desired.
"I don't remember much, How long have I been unconscious?"
Nathan asked, his hands rubbing the gunshot scar.
Rodriguez got what was happening instantly.
The old Nathan was back but not completely so that meant they were still friends and that meant

. even God was on his side.
"Where were you?"
Miranda demanded from Rodriguez when she came in.
Her worried face turned light when she saw Nathan standing.
"Why is she staring at me like that? It was just a bullet wound."
Miranda turned your Rodriguez, puzzled.
"Nathan... you're... ok."
"Oh my God! You're back."
She jumped to her son and squeezed him like she intended to break his ribs.
The darkest night just turned to the brightest day.
"So you mean I acted like a child for three years?"
Nathan cut in.
"You don't remember?"
Miranda quizzed. Nathan nodded.
"But if it's three years, What is Adriana doing here?"
Nathan said pointing to the other bed.
Miranda hadn't noticed someone was there.
She walked up to the bee and gasped.
"Ema! What is she doing here?"
Nathan was puzzled. Why were they calling her that?
"She's not Adriana. Just a lookalike."
Rodriguez chipped in, seeing Nathan's dilemma.
That was impossible! There was no way anyone could look like his wife.
He knew her and this had to be her.
"Yes. She's not Adriana."
This was all too much for Nathan to bear.
"So where is Adriana?"
He demanded, he was almost shouting.
Miranda remained quiet.
There was no way she was going to be the one to break the news to him but there was someone else who thought differently and he didn't hide any unpleasantries.
"She's dead Nathan. Gunned down by her own father."
Rodriguez spilled, not the slightest hint of sympathy in his voice.
No! This could not be true.
Adriana was a fighter.
If he survived, there was no way she could end up dead.
"I need air,"
Nathan informed and went out of the doors.
Miranda went after him but Rodriguez stopped her.
"I don't think you should. He needs to take all this in. Give him some time alone."
While all these were being said, Miranda did not miss the malevolent grin he gave.
Nathan tried to process everything he had to endure since he regained his lost memories.
Adriana was dead and by her own father, it was difficult to believe.
He dropped to the floor not caring any who watched.
He could scream at the heavens for letting this happen.
If there was a Good, he wouldn't do this.
A couple approached him.
The woman mumbled.
They were both in their middle age and the silver stains that ran from their eyes to the cheek implied that they had been crying.
"Who are you?"
Nathan asked. He didn't remember knowing them, He was basically useless.
"Stop pretending like you don't know us. Where is my daughter?"
The woman snapped. The man with her continued to sob. "Who!"
She retorted. The girl in his ward. Who were they?
"What do you want to see her?"
"Because we are her parents. What are you trying to do? Trick us?"
The lady replied.
He didn't get what the last was so worked up but he directed them to his ward.
They rushed in without thanking him and he followed them.
"Ema, They did this to you. Didn't they?"
The woman Immediately accused,
"They did this to my baby."
Nathan immediately guessed she was a drama queen.
He still couldn't believe Adriana had someone that looked exactly like her.
It made him want to ask some questions.
"Is she your biological daughter?"
Nathan quizzed. He immediately got a glare.
The noise got so intense and the nurse had to lead the couple out.
Nathan was placed back on drip for a full recovery.
"Thanks, doctor will be here to check on him soon. For now, it would be nice if you leave the room so he can rest."
The nurse informed. Miranda nodded and walked out with Rodriguez.
Rodriguez gave a hint to Mrs.
Contreras to follow him and she did.
He stopped when they got to a secluded part of the hospital.
"Why did you call me?"
She demanded shaking.
Her husband could catch her at any time with this man and she was sure he wouldn't want to listen to any explanation she rendered.
"Well, Nathan has regained his memory and wants his wife back. What are you going to do about it?"
"You mean we, we are in this together right?" Rodriguez nodded and continued,
"Of course we are but sadly you'll have to do the work. What Nathan wants, he gets."
There was a bit something strange about all this, Mrs. Contreras could not help but notice.
"If she almost destroyed Nathan, why would he want her back?"
Rodriguez had to admit.
She was beginning to catch on his lies. He still had cards up his sleeve.
"I don't know what goes through his head but Do you want to lose her?"
He was talented in playing on her weak side, her addiction.
It was the only way he could lure back into his game.
"No, but what he doesn't need her anymore, he's regained his memory..."
"Not all of it."
Rodriguez cut in,
"He doesn't remember the incident at the cliff and so does Adriana. Now if they spend even little time together, it could trigger something. It's up to you to stop that. Can you do that?"
"I'll do anything. I can't lose her."
(At least my boo, Rod is safe)
